We started this to do childcare properly.
West Coast In-Home is an in-home childcare agency serving families across Puget Sound and the San Francisco Bay Area. We're new, we're local, and we've built the business around the parts of this industry we think are broken.
The short version
Finding childcare you trust is one of the hardest things a family does, and the industry doesn't make it easier. Most agencies introduce you to someone and then step back, leaving you to run a payroll, buy insurance and manage an employment relationship you never asked for. Meanwhile the caregiver, on the other side of it, takes on all the insecurity of contract work.
We thought both halves of that were fixable at once, by simply being the employer. So that's what we do.
Four things we decided early
Employ, don't place
Our caregivers are our employees: payroll, taxes, workers' compensation, paid time off. It costs us more than a placement fee model, and it's the single most important choice we've made.
Continuity over availability
Children settle with the same familiar person, not with whoever is free. We'd rather tell you we don't have the right match yet than send somebody your child has never met.
Say the awkward thing early
If we can't cover a day, can't find a match, or think you'd be better served elsewhere, you'll hear it while you can still do something about it.
Make it safe to raise a concern
A caregiver, a family, even a neighbor can report a concern anonymously, without an account and without being a client. We built that before we had anyone to use it.
Puget Sound and the Bay Area
In Washington we serve families across King, Pierce, Snohomish, Kitsap, Thurston, Mason and Island counties, from Arlington and Camano down to Olympia, and from Kitsap across to Snoqualmie.
In California we serve the Bay Area: San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Sonoma, Napa and Solano, down to Santa Cruz and Hollister.
We're not a national brand with a branch in your city, and we're not trying to be one. Being able to actually get to a family, on the day, with somebody they've met, is the whole product. So check your zip code and we'll tell you right away whether that includes you.
