A real job, with a real employer.
We're hiring nannies and in-home caregivers across Puget Sound and the San Francisco Bay Area. You'd be our employee, on payroll, with taxes withheld and workers' compensation carried. Not a contractor sent an invoice template.
What we take care of
Childcare work is often sold as flexibility and delivered as insecurity. These are the parts we carry rather than pass to you.
W-2 employment
You're employed by us, not contracted. Taxes come out of every paycheck and we file your W-2, so there's no 1099 waiting for you in April and no self-employment tax to find.
A 401(k), with 3% from us
Eligible caregivers get a safe harbor 401(k), and we pay in an extra 3% on top of your wages, whether or not you contribute yourself. Private nanny jobs almost never come with a retirement plan.
Paid time off
Actual paid leave, so being sick isn't a choice between your income and a family's day. That matters to them too. Nobody wants a caregiver who can't afford to stay home.
We pay for screening
The background check is ours to arrange and ours to pay for. You'll never be asked to fund your own vetting as a condition of being considered.
Families matched to you
We match on the specifics: the ages you're best with, the part of town you can get to, the hours that suit your life. For ongoing placements you meet the family before anything is agreed.
Someone answers the phone
If something goes wrong at a house, whether it's a misunderstanding, a safety worry or a schedule that keeps creeping, you call us and we deal with it. You're not negotiating alone in somebody's kitchen.
What we are looking for
We'd rather be straight about this than have you spend twenty minutes on an application that was never going to work.
- You're 18 or over. No exceptions. This is a condition of the insurance as much as anything else.
- You're authorized to work in the US. Because you'd be our employee, we can't work around this.
- You can work at least 2 full days a week. Families need consistency, and below that we cannot give you a placement worth having.
- You have real, sustained experience with children. Nannying, daycare, preschool, teaching or similar work, with children in the age group you'd be caring for. Occasionally watching cousins or the neighbors' kids isn't enough. It doesn't have to have been your job title.
How hiring works
-
You apply
Tell us who you are, where you are, and what your experience is. It should take a few minutes, not an evening.
-
We get in touch, usually by text
A few questions about your availability and your experience, at a time that suits you. Most people find this easier than a phone call they have to schedule around.
-
An interview
A real conversation about the work, the families we serve and what you're looking for. We'll also ask for your references here.
-
Background check and offer
We run the screening, at our cost. If it clears and we both want to go ahead, you get a written offer.
-
Orientation, then your first family
We get you set up on payroll, walk you through how we work, and match you. For ongoing placements you meet the family first.
Across 18 counties in two states
94 cities and towns across King, Pierce, Snohomish, Kitsap, Thurston, Mason and Island counties in Puget Sound and 171 cities and towns across all nine Bay Area counties, plus Santa Cruz and San Benito. We match you to families you can realistically get to, so tell us how far you're willing to travel and we'll keep to it. Check a zip code.
Tell us about yourself
Nine questions, most of them your contact details. We'll come back to you either way.
Questions first? Call (206) 796-3680 (Seattle) or (408) 539-4244 (Bay Area), or email hello@westcoastinhome.com.
